There is a version of a hotel lobby that plays it safe. Recessed downlights, neutral palette, nothing that asks for a second look. Hotel Sandkorn in Nürnberg is not that hotel.

The property sits in the heart of the old town, a heritage building with ornate grey-panelled dining rooms, antique stained glass windows, a deep green reception desk, and a rooftop terrace that looks out over the city's distinctive steep-pitched rooflines. It has its own character at every level. The lighting brief for the lobby corridor needed to match that ambition.
The Installation
Hotel Sandkorn chose the Naaya Morning Bell ceramic pendant in a flight of five colours and seven sizes, ranging from 8.5 to 15.5 inches, for the lobby corridor near reception. Latte, Rosemary, Cinnamon, Coconut Husk, Dark Green, warm clay, and natural stoneware, all handmade in our Bengaluru studio, hung as a grouped installation that greets every guest as they arrive.
The Morning Bell is our bestselling design. Its silhouette, wide at the shoulder and drawn in at the neck, distributes light generously downward and outward. In a single colour it reads as calm and considered. In a mixed flight like this one it becomes something else entirely, a grouping that feels curated rather than chaotic, each pendant distinct but all part of the same family.
The warm interior texture of each pendant, visible when lit, adds a layer of richness that solid exterior finishes alone cannot achieve. From outside the hotel, visible through the entrance glass, the lobby already tells you this is a place that has thought about the details.
The Property
Beyond the lobby, Hotel Sandkorn moves between very different moods. The dining room is formal without being cold, ornate grey wall panelling, parquet floors, morning light through tall windows with stained glass inserts of the Nürnberg cityscape. The reception is deep green and modern, with a bonsai on the counter and under-lit warm timber cladding. The rooftop terrace is open and relaxed, dark timber decking and modular seating overlooking the old town.
The Morning Bell flight holds the lobby as the connective tissue between all of it.
On Mixed Colour Installations
Specifying multiple colours in a single installation is a decision that requires confidence. Done wrong it reads as indecisive. Done right it becomes the moment that defines the whole space.
The key is working within a tonal family rather than across contrasts. Hotel Sandkorn's palette, mustard, sage, clay, and natural stoneware, all sit within a warm earthy register. Nothing clashes. Everything belongs.
